We provide all aspects of hardware and software support to our main customer, Whitings LLP (approximately 175 users, spread over 9 sites), chartered accountants, and on numerous unrelated smaller assignments. We are based in a modern office, in March, Cambridgeshire, with the role including some travel to customer sites based up to a few hours travel of the office.

The Apprentice IT Support Technician is an important part of the service delivery team. Our client base range between owner managed micro business working from home, companies with full disparate teams across the UK, single and multi-sited sited business with 25-200 staff, through to a 1000 pupil public school. Out work ranges from providing full managed services acting as the customer IT department through to providing specialist infrastructure escalation support to client internal IT teams. Our customers are increasingly dependent on their IT systems working properly and efficiently for their day-to-day operations.

The Apprentice IT Support Technician will be responsible for liaising on a day-to-day basis with end users at customers taking support requests and either working them through to resolution under the supervision/instruction of senior staff or escalating them internally to colleagues depending on the nature as well as carrying out planned and preventative maintenance and installation activities.

It is anticipated that all the apprenticeship learning is completed on-line with twice weekly group live sessions and monthly updates which will also be attended by one of your DIT managers. It is anticipated that, initially, about 20-25% of your weekly time will be set aside for learning.

This apprenticeship provides the skills, qualification and experience you need to become an IT support technician and you will be working towards a Level 3 IT Technician qualification as well as other relevant industry and product specific qualifications as appropriate.

The Apprentice IT Support Technician will work alongside our experienced and qualified other staff, with responsibilities to:

  • Install and maintain computer hardware and software, servers, PCs, laptops, mobile phones, audio/visual equipment, and peripherals both on-premise and in hosted in cloud infrastructures. For both Decisive IT and its clients, in our office, our clients’ offices or remotely via remote management software. Both on-premises and in the cloud.
    • Assist with the expansion and operation of our clients’ network infrastructures including firewalls, routers, switches, cabling, and wireless network equipment.
    • Routine administration tasks including data backups as needed.
    • Software installation, maintenance and upgrading in line with our clients’ needs.
    • Administration and development of Internet, Intranet, Office 365, learning platforms and Email systems.
    • Onboard and offboarding of starters and leavers for both on premise and Microsoft 365 and cloud-based software platforms.
    • To keep abreast of technological developments.
    • To support staff and our clients with the use of ICT including online support and assisting with training where appropriate.
    • Cyber Security

This is an IT Support role and, as you would expect, work hours will vary, to fit in with customer requirements. Predominantly this role will cover our clients core business hours between 8am and 6pm working over 7.5 hours, 5 day per week within these core hours with a 1 hour lunch break. It may be necessary at time to work outside these hours, for example, to complete disruptive planned work on customers’ sites.

Eligible Applicants
